Employee experience post-pandemic: A time for recalibration

During the last 10 years, a wonderful evolution has taken place in top-rated workplaces, as they’ve recognized that employee experience (EX) is a competitive differentiator in attracting and retaining top talent. Much of the investment made during the last decade has gone into reinventing the physical workspace – creating spaces tailored to the varied kinds of work performed, including open collaborative spaces for group work, pods for individual heads-down tasks and flexible space to be used by many different teams at different times.

Great spaces were created to make work more like home, with coffee shops, laundromats, medical clinics and even sleep pods available to enable staff to work on site to their own schedule. While remote working was enabled, the concept of community (in the frame of physical presence) was emphasized as a virtue and differentiator within the workplace.

COVID-19 hasn’t changed the need for community, collaboration and flexible enablement in our teams, but it will require leaders to consider how these ideals can be achieved in a world where we cannot always guarantee the option of close physical proximity. The role of digital tools (particularly collaboration tools such as Zoom and MicrosoftTeams) as a part of an integrated and seamless digital workplace has risen to the top of the to-do list for C-suite leaders. More clearly now, EX extends to the sofa, the dining room table and the home office. A time for recalibration has arrived.
