Your panel of practitioner judges for My Beautiful Intranet 2014

As entries to DWG’s My Beautiful Intranet 2014 contests flood in, a specialist panel of intranet and digital workplace practitioners from Estée Lauder Companies, Standard Chartered Bank and Wells Fargo has been lined up to pass their judgement and select their winners, alongside DWG’s own usability expert, Louise Kennedy.

MBI 2014 contest - screenshot-collageWith Digital Workplace Group (DWG) run by practitioners for practitioners, it was only fitting that the judging panel for DWG’s My Beautiful Intranet 2014 be comprised of those leading the way with their own intranet and digital workplace programmes.

And so, without further ado, we are pleased to present to you the judging panel for this year’s My Beautiful Intranet contest…

Kerry O’Donnell, Executive Director Global Digital Communications, Estée Lauder Companies

Kerry O'DonnellKerry has experience in developing and delivering innovative digital solutions, often acting as the key technology partner to the businesses she works with.

Currently working as the Executive Director for Estée Lauder Companies Corporate Online Global Communications team overseeing the global intranet for over 40,000 employees, ELCompanies.com corporate website and corporate social media.

Her previous roles have involved her overseeing Fortune 500 intranet services, e-collaboration services, and consolidating multiple intranets into a unified delivery channel. The outcome of these efforts speak for themselves, with $2 million saved in employee operational efficiency, and over $1.4 million saved annually through improvements to content management, web analytics and employee training.

Sharon O’Dea, Deputy Head of Digital Communications, Standard Chartered Bank

Sharon O'DeaSharon may well be known to those of you who follow her work on Twitter, her blog, Intranetizen or Pinterest, and where she curates one of the biggest collections of intranet screenshots.

As a practitioner, Sharon brings with her more than 13 years of internal communications and intranet experience, having worked with high-profile organizations such as Save the Children and UK Parliament, where she delivered an award-winning mobile intranet.

She joined Standard Chartered Bank in 2012. Sharon is one quarter of the team behind Intranetizen, sharing insights into key intranet and digital workplace trends, as well as speaking at conferences.

She is also co-founder of 300 Seconds, a series of events aimed at improving diversity in the digital industry.

Some of her key specialities include: intranet management and development; user needs analysis; user experience design and testing; digital communications strategy development; and stakeholder and user engagement.

Andy Jones, Senior Vice President Intranet Services, Wealth, Brokerage and Retirement Division, Wells Fargo

Andy JonesAndy is the Director of Intranet Services for Wells Fargo’s Wealth, Brokerage and Retirement Division. Andy’s teams are currently merging, consolidating and migrating change activities across 30 different intranets, running on multiple technology platforms across four major divisions.

Andy also leads his division’s internal social media and collaboration efforts, which include considerations for highly regulated advisors and agents. He is a former winner of the Nielson Norman Group’s Top 10 Intranets (Wachovia Bank).

Andy brings with him considerable experience in establishing intranet strategy, benchmarking and ensuring that activities cover both employee enablement and alignment with Wells Fargo’s overall corporate strategy.

Louise Kennedy, Benchmark Programme Manager and Consultant, Digital Workplace Group

Louise KennedyLast, but by no means least, we have our very own Louise Kennedy joining the panel, as a lead usability evaluator and coordinator for DWG’s benchmarking programme.

Louise has experience of conducting benchmarking, requirements gathering, user surveys and testing for a range of international clients, and has also written DWG briefing papers on findability topics. Her past clients include the BBC, PUMA and 3M.

Judging My Beautiful Intranet 2014

Entries to the two contest tracks – intranet and mobile – are currently being submitted and then voted for by the public. After the submission deadline of Friday May 16th, the public will have until Friday May 23rd to cast votes for their favourite entries.

Our judges will then be reviewing the top vote-getting entries to select those they feel truly stand out. They will also be reviewing the full field of entries to find any submissions that may have slipped through the voting cracks, before selecting their winners and runner-ups.

Sharon, Andy, Kerry and Louise will be using the following judging criteria to make their decisions:

  • Use of good visual design standards
  • Creativity in applying visuals that enhance the site’s impact
  • Cleanliness and clarity of design
  • Apparent usability (you can only be scientific through user testing)
  • Functionality and usefulness
