The Digital Workplace Group celebrates ten years of defining the world’s best intranets

June 11, 2012

11 June 2012, New York and London

This month the Digital Workplace Group (DWG) is very proud to be celebrating ten years as the recognized global leader in the field of intranet measurement and best practice.

Founded in June 2002 by Paul Miller, IBF has spent a decade pioneering new services and innovative approaches, helping the world’s leading organizations transform their intranets. This has resulted in millions of dollars being saved in increased productivity as well as huge increases in employee engagement.

Once called a “phenomenon in the intranet industry” by Oracle, current and previous members of IBF include prestigious global brands such as Aviva, AT&T, Microsoft, BT, BBC, Ernst &Young and IKEA.

Paul Miller said “I’m really proud to have spent 10 years leading the world’s premier service for anyone running a large scale intranet.  Workplace technology changes so rapidly, yet intranets have remained a core digital channel within the enterprise, and they’re now becoming more essential than ever before.  I feel very privileged that IBF has been able to influence the direction and delivery of intranets in the world’s best known organizations.”

Miller continued “We started out creating a benchmarking service for intranets which proved that objective and robust measurement is the absolute best way to identify the future roadmap for your intranet.  We’ve continued to expand our services with confidential networking for intranet teams, rich interaction through our incredible member meetings, a world-class research program and our ground-breaking broadcasts of live intranet tours.  I’m enjoying transforming the business as a foundation for the next 10 years”

Highlights from the past decade include:

  • 160 members from all over the globe including many from the Fortune 500 and equivalent
  • Over 600 benchmarks carried out covering usability, strategy & governance, measurement & performance, communication & collaboration, financial value and corporate internet sites
  • The largest sustained rolling program of intranet-themed conferences in the world
  • Nearly 10,000 downloads of IBF research reports
  • The introduction of the world’s first regular online broadcast dedicated to intranets and live intranet tours
  • Three editions of IBF 24, the world’s only 24-hour global intranet-themed event and the largest intranet event in the calendar
  • The creation of the largest online collection of intranet resources in the world including hundreds of live intranet tours
  • The launch of a new forum dedicated to the wider “Digital Workplace”

Celebrations this month culminate in simultaneous in-person member meetings and celebratory evenings in London and New York on 13 June.

Paul Miller is also contributing a series of reflections over the past ten years in a number of blog posts available on the Digital Workplace Group website.
