A little strategy with your social? Yes, please!
On the next IBF Live, we invite Accenture and Covidien (formerly Tyco Healthcare) to compare notes on their enterprise social strategies. And Modus Associates also pays us a visit to share the highlights of their award-winning strategy project for the Cleveland Clinic intranet.
Join us Tuesday, August 2nd on IBF Live for another month of intelligent, fun discussion about intranets and the digital workplace. Paul Miller, CEO of IBF, will host the show, along with guest hosts, Gia Lyons, Strategic Advisor and Jive Business Community Manager at Jive Software and Robert Rose, Chief Troublemaker at Big Blue Moose.
First on deck, Steve Kaukonen and Steve Berzins from the Accenture Social Learning team will show us how the Knowledge Exchange sub-portal encourages a culture of knowledge sharing by rigorous analysis and measurement of collaborative behaviors in the company. We’ll also take a look at the various tools they’ve developed to deliver highly personalized content and recommendations; and finally we’ll discuss their adoption strategy and see some of their marketing and communications content.
Up next, Roy Wilsker from Covidien will give a tour of Pulse Connect, Covidien’s Jive-based collaboration platform. He’ll sketch out the intranet history at Covidien, and describe events that drove the decision to go with the Jive platform for collaboration (spoiler alert: mergers, acquisitions and a fragmented intranet landscape). Roy is an IT guy who understands that it’s not about the technology… it’s about the people. In fact, one of Roy’s mantras is: “It’s not a tool; it’s a community.”
Rounding out the discussion, we have Scott McDonald from Modus Associates to tell us about his intranet strategy project with the Cleveland Clinic, which went on to win an honorable mention at the first User Experience Awards. Scott will join us with Leslie Chom from the Cleveland Clinic to discuss the decision to start with a strategy project; then move on to planning; and finally, execution. Scott and Leslie will also share the solution highlights, including mobile and social strategies, as well as their phased implementation roadmap.

She spent four years as a collaborative application instructor and developer for Whittman-Hart, another eight years as a socio-collaborative technical specialist and evangelist for IBM, serving large organizations in the Americas. Gia joined Jive Software in June 2008 as a strategic consultant, crafting custom-fit Jive Social Business Software adoption implementation strategies for her clients’ employees, partners, and customers. Gia also serves as the Jive Business Community Manager, where she’s putting into practice Jive Consulting’s community management methods and frameworks. Robert Rose is Founder and Chief Troublemaker at Big Blue Moose. Steve Kaukonen is a Senior Manager within Accenture’s Social Learning team. His current role is focused on instilling a culture of collaboration and knowledge sharing throughout the organization – simply put, how to get people to have the proper collaborative behaviors by being aware of why it is important, what is available, and how to actively engage in collaborating. Steve Berzins is a manager on the Social Learning team at Accenture. Based in St. Charles, IL, Steve is responsible for the defining requirements for Accenture’s internal knowledge sharing and community applications. He also specializes in the broader user experience of the application. He has been with Accenture for 15 years, with a past experience designing, building, and managing online training. Roy Wilsker is Senior Director, Technology Planning for Covidien, a $10 billion global healthcare products leader. He is helping to lead his company’s efforts to drive innovation and collaboration and had been involved with all phases of the selection, piloting, and implementation of Covidien’s Jive SBS based environment. In addition to his Enterprise 2.0 related efforts, he is also working on a number of strategic business enablement projects including the implementation of a global CRM system, mobile application development, and next generation medical devices and systems. Scott McDonald is an Internet strategist, entrepreneur and co-founder of Modus Associates, an Internet strategy and design consultancy based in New York City. Prior to founding Modus in 2002, Scott was a strategist with the New York office of Scient Corporation and creative supervisor at Young & Rubicam’s Brand Dialogue interactive group. Scott has led high-profile intranet design projects for Coldwell Banker Real Estate Corporation., Comcast Corporation, NBC Universal, Pfizer Global Manufacturing, Cleveland Clinic and the United States Architect of the Capitol. He and Modus are the only two-time agency winners of the Nielsen Norman Group’s Intranet Design Annual: Year’s 10 Best Intranets.
