24 hours of the world’s best intranets online
DWG (formerly Intranet Benchmarking Forum (IBF)) has always been ready and keen to take risks and innovate. Paul Miller and our then Creative Lead, Paul Levy, had the brave idea in 2008 of presenting a programme of digital workplace tours over 24 hours – non-stop and online! It was an insane ambition that bizarrely worked. IBF24, as we called it – 24 hours of the world’s best intranets from wherever you are – used Microsoft technology to connect a global intranet community for the first time.
Recognizing excellence within our community
In 2017, DWG launched the Digital Workplace of the Year Awards at the DW Experience conference in Chicago. In 2018, Cisco were runners up and impressed the judging panel across the board, receiving particularly high scores for its robust digital workplace governance and impactful demonstration of benefits. The judges also commended the sheer ambition of the highly mature strategy and programme. Alan McGinty, Senior Director, Global Workplace Innovation, who was in Chicago to receive the award.
The digital workplace in print
Paul Miller popularized the term 'digital workplace' back in 2009 to describe the wider eco-system of workplace technology in his first book, The Digital Workplace: How technology is liberating work. He then went on to co-write The Digital Renaissance of Work: Delivering digital workplaces fit for the future with Elizabeth Marsh, and Nature of Work: The new story of work for a living age with Shimrit Janes.
The DWG Clinic
The DWG Clinic, launched in 2017, was our light-hearted way of engaging with conference delegates. Promoting healthy digital workplaces, the DWG Clinic provided visitors with the opportunity to discuss any acute ailments or chronic conditions affecting their digital workplace, with a senior DWG consultant. Having listened to the symptoms, the DWG doctor would recommend a course of treatment – and, even if there was no instant cure available, just talking to an understanding digital workplace therapist helped. Ed Taylor and Kevin Old (pictured) made great doctors!
