The road ahead.
This in-depth research investigates how digital workplace practitioners can engage in ‘futuring’ practices to understand the distant horizons of the digital workplace. DWG’s awards programme has shown that trailblazing teams have invested in approaches to interpret trends and signals from the world of work and beyond.
Futuring is defined as “the practice of envisioning and planning for potential futures, often through a systematic process that includes analysis, exploration and forecasting”. The futurist’s mission is explicitly not to make concrete predictions, but rather to set out a range of scenarios as a catalyst for strategic and creative thinking.
The report examines the high-level frameworks organizations can adopt to manage futuring activities. It includes examples from a range of organizations such as Proctor & Gamble and the UK Government, as well as a Q&A with a digital workplace futurist.

About DWG research
The Digital Workplace Group (DWG) carries out research into best practice in intranet and portal deployment. Covering the hottest topics in the intranet world, the studies we undertake are rooted in practical examples from among DWG member organizations as well as leading non-member companies. The results of this in-depth research act as a basis for decision-making, a source of ideas, and the basis for rich interactions between participants at DWG meetings. Generally, members are given exclusive access to our findings, although we do from time to time make a report available to non-members.
