Measuring the digital workplace

6 June 2017

DWG’s exciting new research ‘Measuring the digital workplace: The power of metrics in the connected workplace’ examines the challenging area of measurement across the broader digital workplace.

Intranet teams are taking on new responsibilities in the wider digital workplace. As the discipline becomes more sophisticated, we must find new ways to measure the success of this extended remit. However, this is only a small local opportunity compared to what it is already possible to measure and what will be available in coming years.

Within organizations, all work is either carried out digitally or somehow leaves a ripple in the digital pond. Indeed, our work, our workplaces and even our bodies are becoming universally measurable.

This in-depth report builds on previous DWG research into measurement and takes a level-headed view of practices across the broader scope of digital workplace. It looks at metrics such as email and social network analysis, measurement within our office environments, the world of business intelligence, the direct measurement of employees and even how we can measure ourselves. The report analyses good practices, issues and opportunities for the future. It includes a case note from the IKEA Group, detailing how it is measuring its digital tools and programmes.

About DWG research

The Digital Workplace Group (DWG) carries out research into best practice in intranet and portal deployment. Covering the hottest topics in the intranet world, the studies we undertake are rooted in practical examples from among DWG member organizations as well as leading non-member companies. The results of this in-depth research act as a basis for decision-making, a source of ideas, and the basis for rich interactions between participants at DWG meetings. Generally, members are given exclusive access to our findings, although we do from time to time make a report available to non-members.
