Digital Workplace Group Founder Paul Miller evolves his Nature of Work concept with ‘Rewilding Work’
Digital Workplace Group (DWG) Founder and newly appointed Chief Creative Officer (CCO), Paul Miller, marks the two-year anniversary of the publishing of his co-authored book Nature of Work: The new story of work for a living age with the announcement of his latest concept, Rewilding Work.
As part of the new concept, Miller is launching Rewilding Work with Paul Miller, a video podcast series, featuring examples of how organizations are bringing the living system approach to life through innovative approaches to sustainability, inclusion, wellbeing and purpose. The first episode includes an interview with Cisco, which has recently launched a new model all around purpose and also introduced a ground-breaking Chief Purpose Officer role, as well as commentary on the interview by experts from Lucasfilm and Fidelity International.
Rewilding Work builds on the idea of the workplace as a living system that is dynamic and ever-changing. Nature of Work was based around the idea that organizations are living systems; more like forests than factories; more akin to organisms than machines. With Rewilding Work, Miller is evolving this idea, describing Rewilding Work as defining the ‘what and how’ whereas Nature of Work explained the ‘why’.
As a result of the publication of Nature of Work: The new story of work for a living age, co-authored with DWG Director of Knowledge, Shimrit Janes, Miller has given talks at the likes of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Vodafone and Henley Business School. The book has captured considerable attention amongst change-makers at different levels in mostly large companies and public bodies – and with organizations from all industries scrambling to improve their digital practices, there is clearly a hunger for direction.
With more than 20 years’ experience at the forefront of digital working, Paul Miller has witnessed the evolution of work and is well placed to pass on his knowledge to organizations looking to make impactful change, as more come to realize the importance of flexibility within the workplace.
While others in the field may reference the ‘future of work’ (a term that Miller argues is too generic, saying not much other than that work has a future), DWG is taking a bolder step in exploring with others how future work should be – and looking to nature for inspiration.
Miller says: ‘In Rewilding Work we really wanted to mix beautiful natural imagery with insightful guest interviews and commentary from pundits/experts to make sense of the conversations, tied together with tangible takeaways – all in 30 mins. Hopefully we are achieving that.’
