Freelancer/Contractor Opportunity

Digital Workplace User Experience Consultant

As a DWG Usability Consultant you will:

  • contribute to proposals by designing methodologies that meet client briefs and objectives
  • lead engagements with our clients, defining overall approach and outputs, as well as work as part of a wider team delivering against previously defined methodologies
  • conduct user research (interviews, surveys, sentiment analysis and persona development)
  • assess intranet and digital workplace design through expert review
  • assess usability through task creation and user observation
  • design and facilitate card-sorting and tree-testing exercises and report back on findings and recommendations
  • define and create draft wireframes to articulate design concepts and recommendations
  • advise clients on intranet and digital workplace usability
  • facilitate stakeholder workshops as part of discovery, insight and alignment gathering
  • benchmark clients using our established models, review benchmarking analysis of others and be reviewed by other DWG freelance consultants as part of our stringent quality control process
  • provide written assessment reports with strong recommendations for improvement, based on experience and external landscape
  • deliver inspiring presentations of findings and recommendations to DWG clients and members, either remotely by web conference or in person
  • support and develop DWG’s benchmarking methodology and consultancy offerings
  • occasionally author expert blog posts and/or original research reports in your specialized field
  • lead learning sessions at DWG member meetings, both face to face and online.

  • a team player and happy to share expertise with others on your project team
  • able to develop strong virtual working relationships across our globally diverse team
  • self-sufficient in how you work and at supporting your own technology
  • a natural communicator in English, both to share project progress and ask for help, at all the right times
  • flexible in your working style – remote work day-to-day with periodic travel as needed
  • have excellent writing and presentation skills and an excellent telephone manner
  • an advanced user of basic MS 365 suite, e.g. Word, Excel, Project.

 

Professional attributes

To join us you will need:

  • 7+ years of experience as a usability specialist in a business environment, at least 3 years within corporate intranets
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Human Factors, Cognitive Science, Information Design or related field
  • thorough understanding of best practices in web design and user interface/information architecture conventions
  • strong knowledge of task analysis and heuristic analysis
  • experience with accessibility standards
  • practical experience with formal and informal usability testing techniques
  • previous experience of working with FT500/Fortune 1000 organizations, either from within or as clients.
