Scotts Miracle-Gro, winner of NN/g and IIA intranet awards, on next IBF Live

January 30, 2012 Updated: July 28, 2022 by

Lisa Smith from Scotts MiracleGro will give a tour of her intranet “The Garden,” which won top honors in the 2012 Nielsen Norman Intranet Design Annual. Amy Schade, co-author of the Design Annual, also joins us to explain why “The Garden” caught her eye, and to share overall trends on teams, technologies and content. Last fall “The Garden” also won the Intranet Innovation Award (IIA) in the “customer-centric intranet” category, and Steve Bynghall, author of the IIA report, joins us to tell us what the IIA awards look for when selecting winners.

What: IBF Live

When: February 7 at 16.00-17.30 GMT / 11.00-12.30 US EST /
08.00 – 09.30 US PST / 17.00-18.30 CET

When the Scotts Miracle-Gro CEO told employees they needed to be closer to their customers, the intranet team decided to tap into the knowledge of employees on the front-line; and the results are remarkable. They crafted a content strategy focused on the consumer, including customer service call recordings on the homepage, customer vignettes, comments and tags. By sharing what they know about their consumers, and surfacing this knowledge in creative, fun and interesting ways, the team has gained a top position among the world’s best intranets.

The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company is the world’s largest marketer of branded consumer lawn and garden products. They operate primarily in North America, along with businesses in Europe and Asia Pacific, and employ approximately 8,000 associates. The Company was founded in 1868 in Marysville, Ohio.

Pssst… it’s Valentine’s Day!

Finally, if you’ve joined us on IBF Live recently, you’ll know that this is the final week of the intranet love affairs campaign! Over the past few months, we’ve been celebrating the vibrancy and vitality of intranets… and the passion of the people behind them. In December, Mark Morrell, aka the Intranet Pioneer, gave us a sneak preview of his upcoming research paper called: “Intranet Love Affairs.” In January, William Amurgis, Director, Internal Communications at American Electric Power (AEP), told us that he LIKES his intranet, but that he LOVES and RESPECTS the people his intranet serves – the employees.

For this February episode of IBF Live, we’re thrilled to welcome two more passionate intranet professionals to share their intranet love stories. You won’t want to miss the conversation with Christy (Season) Punch, Sr. Intranet Strategist at SCANA Corp.; and Martin Risgaard Rasmussen, Application Consultant at Grundfos Holding A/S.

At IBF, we’re humbled and honored to be part of such a vibrant community of professionals. We hope you join us to share your intranet love story.

See you there!
